Hi James,
What CDN extension do you used to upload images to Amazon S3 bucket?
Or it is a built-in feature of EasySocial component?
If you use 3rd party CDN extension, please check whether it support a feature that will remove files from your server after they are uploaded to Amazon S3. If it does, then you need to disable this feature.
Because if you delete files from local, it can be a cause of unexpected issues for some other extensions including our component.

Do you try to re-run full index?
If it is built-in feature of EasySocial, I think that re-running index can help to resolve this issue.
